Downtown / Art above, market below
A city section.
Not a drive-by.
Use Bunker Hill, a museum and the lower market streets as one coherent visit. Choose the main interior before adding another district with “Arts” in its name.

The Broad is free general admission, not an unlimited pass
The Broad recommends reserving a timed general-admission ticket. Read the separate conditions for special exhibitions and the Infinity Mirrored Room; a general ticket does not mean every experience has the same entry arrangement. Its current calendar lists Monday closure, so choose another day if entering the museum is the purpose.
The Broad: general admission and Infinity Mirrored Room conditions
During the expansion works described on the museum’s September 2026 visitor page, Hope Street is closed between General Thaddeus Kosciuszko Way and 2nd Street, with garage access directed via Grand Avenue. Recheck the current approach before traveling, especially if the garage or an accessible arrival is important. A familiar entrance from an old photograph may not be the correct approach during work.
Bunker Hill → Angels Flight → Grand Central Market
Begin with the booked museum or chosen architecture stop
Reach the actual entrance using the current map. If the first event is timed, do it before the flexible market portion. Leave room to understand the collection or building rather than treating arrival at its facade as the whole visit.
Cross the upper district deliberately
Choose the public connection toward California Plaza, respecting current works and access. The experience here includes the change in level between the hill and the lower streets. Not every visible stair or building lobby is a public route.
Angels Flight · A short, specific railway
The operator identifies the upper station at California Plaza, 350 S Grand Avenue, and the lower entrance at 351 S Hill Street, opposite Grand Central Market. Check current service and fare if riding. It is a short funicular connection, not a citywide Metro service.
Grand Central Market · Make lunch part of the visit
Choose among the current vendors according to the meal and seating you need. Different stalls have different queues and hours. A seated pause can be more useful than several hurried purchases while deciding where to go next.
A lower-street stop or return
Choose a nearby architecture interest when it fits, or finish at the useful transit connection. Do not automatically add a distant Arts District walk simply because the downtown day still has an hour on paper.

Grand Central Market: vendors and events
If the funicular is not usable for your group or is not operating, choose a verified appropriate public connection instead. Do not assume the nearest staircase is equivalent access. The route can also begin at the market and move uphill when the booking dictates; its value is the relationship between places, not a mandatory direction.
An exterior, a lobby and a tour are different visits
The LA Conservancy’s Bradbury Building material gives context for its celebrated interior and visitor limits. Check current public access before planning to enter, and stay within permitted areas. The upper floors are not an invitation to explore merely because the building is recognizable from a film.
LA Conservancy: Bradbury Building history and visitor limits
For a deeper architecture day, compare the Conservancy’s current walking-tour subjects. A historic downtown route and a theatre-focused route ask you to look at different features. Choose the subject you want to understand rather than booking whichever title sounds like it contains the most buildings.
The Arts District is a separate choice, not the next room
If a particular gallery, restaurant or Arts District destination is the priority, identify its actual location and current opening, then give the transfer a real block. Let it replace part of the Bunker Hill sequence rather than appending an unfamiliar long walk after a full museum visit. Downtown is a large label, not a single pedestrian compound.
One specific alternative is Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles at 901 East 3rd Street, in a former flour-mill complex. Its visitor information lists free gallery and garden entry without advance booking, while organized group tours need their own arrangement. Choose the current exhibition, spend time with the works and the adapted industrial setting, then take a nearby meal or return. This is the Downtown location, not the separate West Hollywood gallery.
Hauser & Wirth: Downtown gallery, garden and entry
For an Arts District-led day, make that visit the principal art block and use a shorter market or architecture portion if it fits. Do not attempt to give two major collections full attention in the time originally allowed for one. Check the gallery’s actual opening date and map the transfer from the lower downtown streets before committing.
Los Angeles Tourism: districts and visitor information
For a shorter day, use one museum, Angels Flight if suitable and a market meal. For an architecture day, let a guided walk and the lower streets be the core. For a wet or hot day, reduce exposed walking and choose the indoor visit that actually has space and admission available.
Before leaving the final stop, check the route back to the hotel or the next confirmed event. A nearby station symbol may represent a different line from the one you need. A complete day ends with enough attention left for the journey home, rather than a last attraction added because its name appeared in the same search category.
Keep the next connection realistic
Is every Broad experience included in general admission?
No. Check the specific installation, exhibition and ticket conditions. A timed general-admission booking is not a blanket reservation for every experience.
Does Angels Flight replace a Metro trip across Downtown?
No. It is a short funicular between specified upper and lower stations. Use it for that connection and check the separate onward route.
Choose another Los Angeles district day

Hollywood & Griffith Park
Hollywood street attractions and Griffith Observatory are different experiences linked by a significant climb or transport connection. The observatory offers city context, while a hike requires a separate check of weather, daylight and ability.

Santa Monica & Venice
The western coast offers a beach-and-neighborhood day with a long shared path. Santa Monica and Venice can be linked on foot or bicycle, but sun, distance and return transport deserve as much attention as the pier.
